Is Your Timepiece Waterproof?
Friday, July 8th, 2011If you are looking for a watch to swim or dive with, you must not think that any water-resistant wristwatch is good for such activities. This is a wrong opinion, because resistance to water of wristwatches differs. Vast majority water-resistant wristwatches can withstand short contact with water, but these must not be used for swimming and certainly they cannot be used for diving.
Before buying a water resistant watch you must find out what the markings on the wristwatch mean. A wristwatch with marking “water resistant 3 ATM (30 m)” is not good for swimming or diving. There are wristwatches with higher water resistance – to 50m, you ought to remove such a wristwatch if you plan to dive, but such a timepiece will withstand swimming. The greatest timepieces are those with water resistance to 10ATM (100 m), these are appropriate for diving.
Also many customers think that imitation timepieces are highly waterproof, but this is wrong. Even a Rolex Oyster facsimile wristwatch that is an exact copy of an original Rolex dive timepiece, is not very water resistant. You must understand that a replica Rolex timepiece imitates an original Rolex wristwatch ideally, but it is not so impeccable. It is important to remember, that both fake watches and genuine watches will not be accepted for refund if being damaged by water.
